Literature Text

Don’t make
me stand in the
rain while you wait in line
to buy your six dachshunds matching
raincoats.

Don’t make
me say since we
keep bumping into each
other maybe we should have lunch
sometime.

Don’t make
me accuse you
of lying when you say
you were just out walking our dogs
again.

Don’t make
me ask if you
could forgive all of my
past mistakes and expect you to
say yes.

Don’t make
me live inside
because I’m too scared to
come out and show you who I could
have been.
And here's the second of the two from last semester. I should mention that, while my other poems have been based on my own life and my own surroundings in some way, this poem was completely fabricated. I wanted to challenge myself to tell a story that wasn't my own, wasn't even partially my own. I wrote the first stanza, and then half an hour later I wrote the last stanza, and then I spent nearly two and a half hours filling in the rest. I got a good result, I think, but it was exhausting. So I don't know if I'll be doing something like this again. ^^;
